Quizlet and its live version is a platform where students can review information in an engaging manner. When students use it to review information they have the option to play Match or Gravity. These are highly motivational, in Match players are working to get the highest score by matching terms and definitions as fast as possible while Gravity makes you identify the term before the “asteroids” (definitions) hit. The live version is even more appealing! In this version teachers can choose to have students play individually or in teams. Although you’re prompted to enter your name, the program provides nicknames for each individual or team and questions are randomized. As students progress through the questions they can view the status of each team/player at the top of the screen which excites them to work faster.
Although an engaging tool to review information and assess students’ knowledge, the reports are not as detailed as teachers would like. The tool lists terms that are often missed or never missed but does not list individual information for each student. Despite the fact that students enjoy playing the live version, they do not all get to complete the quiz. Once a team or player completes the quiz, it ends for all. Thus, the live version can be used as a motivational activity. Teachers should utilize this tool with students as an engaging review. Specifically, students should be prompted to play the Match and Gravity games to help them study or review terms in order to build up their knowledge. Teachers should use the live version in teams mode when they want to motivate students as the individual mode could discourage students.

Quizizz is another engaging assessment platform. It has many of the same features Kahoot has including images, leaderboards, and music. What I like best about it is that students can work at their own pace since they can view the quiz on their own device. Even better the questions get randomized so there’s no need to worry about cheating. You can choose from several different languages which is beneficial for a school that has dual language classes as well as ENL learners. One more feature I like is that you can import a quiz you previously created.
Since the questions are only visible on each device and not a projector I think it is important that the program has a recording option. With this option teachers can record their voice reading the question, this will support learners at different reading levels. Although I like that you can email parents students quizzes, I also feel that the reports could be improved to simply show struggling students and difficult questions like Kahoot does. With these improvements I would recommend this tool to other teachers. Teachers would enjoy that questions are randomized so students are not able to cheat. Another feature that they would enjoy is that quizzes can be assigned as homework and can easily be shared to Google Classroom. These features simplify quizzes for teachers, engage students, and provide quick reports. |
